Designs and operates high-tech fish and shrimp farming systems like Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).
A Day in the Life
An Aquaculture Systems Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes complex aquaculture systems, such as Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) or offshore cages. This involves using engineering principles to ensure efficient water quality management, structural integrity, energy efficiency, and overall system performance. They often work on CAD software, conduct site visits, and oversee installation.
- Designing detailed layouts and schematics for aquaculture facilities using CAD software
- Performing calculations for water flow, filtration, aeration, and waste management systems
- Selecting appropriate materials and equipment for system components (pumps, filters, tanks)
- Conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for new projects
- Overseeing the installation, testing, and commissioning of aquaculture systems
- Troubleshooting and optimizing existing systems for efficiency and performance
- Collaborating with biologists and farm managers to integrate biological and engineering aspects
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards
Work Environment
