A Day in the Life
An Archaeological Field Assistant (Heritage) focuses on the conservation and documentation of Buddhist monuments. A typical day involves working at a heritage site, assisting with cleaning, stabilization, and recording the condition of structures, as well as documenting new findings and contributing to site management plans.
- Assist in the cleaning, stabilization, and minor repair of Buddhist monuments and structures.
- Document the condition of heritage sites through detailed notes, photographs, and drawings.
- Participate in site surveys and mapping activities for heritage management.
- Help with the careful handling, packaging, and transport of artifacts from sites.
- Maintain site records, inventories, and conservation logs.
- Operate and maintain basic conservation tools and equipment.
- Support senior archaeologists and conservators in implementing preservation strategies.
- Engage with local communities and visitors regarding heritage awareness.
Work Environment
Work is primarily outdoors at historical and archaeological sites, often exposed to varying weather conditions. It involves physical activity, careful handling of delicate materials, and a focus on meticulous documentation. Some office work for reporting and data entry is also involved.
