A Day in the Life
You teach Archaeology and/or ancient history at secondary or university level — introducing students to archaeological methods, Sri Lanka's extraordinarily rich archaeological heritage, and the science of understanding the past.
- Deliver lectures or lessons on archaeological theory, methodology, and Sri Lankan sites
- Teach material culture analysis — ceramics, lithics, coins, epigraphy
- Guide students in understanding major SL heritage sites (Sigiriya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa)
- Conduct fieldwork demonstrations and participate in excavation programmes
- Prepare students for O/L/A/L History and Archaeology examinations
- Supervise student research on Sri Lankan historical and archaeological topics
- Organise heritage site visits and fieldwork learning experiences
- Maintain archaeological teaching collections and reference materials
Work Environment
University department or school classroom focused on history and archaeology. In Sri Lanka, Archaeology is taught at the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR), University of Kelaniya, and University of Peradeniya. The Central Cultural Fund and Department of Archaeology provide institutional support for the discipline.
