An Art Director/Set Designer's day is highly varied, often split between conceptualizing designs, sketching, creating models, sourcing materials, and overseeing construction on set. You might start by reviewing a script for visual cues, then spend hours sketching concepts, followed by meetings with directors and producers. Later, you could be on a film set or stage, supervising the build and dressing of a scene.

- Create detailed sketches, storyboards, and 3D models of sets
- Research historical periods, architectural styles, and cultural contexts for authenticity
- Collaborate with directors, producers, costume designers, and lighting designers
- Source and procure materials, props, and furniture within budget
- Oversee the construction, painting, and dressing of sets
- Manage a team of set builders, prop masters, and scenic artists
