A Day in the Life
You design, develop, and review educational curricula — creating structured learning programmes, course materials, and assessment frameworks that align with learning outcomes for schools, universities, or corporate training providers.
- Analyse learning needs and define clear learning objectives for a programme
- Design curriculum frameworks, scope-and-sequence documents, and unit plans
- Develop course content — lesson plans, reading materials, activities, and assessments
- Align curriculum content with national standards (NIE, UGC) or professional competency frameworks
- Review and update existing curricula based on feedback, results data, and industry changes
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), teachers, and instructional designers
- Conduct curriculum pilots and evaluate effectiveness
- Produce curriculum documentation for regulatory approval (UGC, Ministry of Education)
Work Environment
Office-based role at an educational institution, curriculum development body, or edtech company. In Sri Lanka, curriculum developers work at the National Institute of Education (NIE), University Grants Commission (UGC), private universities (SLIIT, NSBM), and large corporate training departments. A small but growing edtech sector in Colombo employs instructional designers and curriculum developers.
