A Day in the Life
You are a degree-holding specialist teacher in the Sri Lanka government school system, appointed to teach a specific subject at secondary or A/L level, commanding a higher salary grade than non-graduate teachers.
- Deliver specialist subject lessons at secondary (O/L) and A/L level using the national curriculum
- Prepare detailed lesson notes and subject-specific teaching materials
- Conduct in-depth O/L and A/L examination preparation sessions
- Mentor junior or probationary teachers in your subject area
- Represent the subject at school-level curriculum and academic committees
- Participate in NIE in-service education (ISE) and continuing professional development
- Provide supplementary support for high-achieving and struggling students
- Contribute to school management tasks assigned by the principal
Work Environment
Government school classroom, primarily at secondary or senior secondary level. Graduate Teacher (Specialist) is a specific designation within Sri Lanka's Teachers' Service structure — these are degree holders in the subject they teach, recruited through the University Grants Commission or Teachers' Service Commission channels. They are often based at 1AB, 1C, or Type 2 national schools.
