About This Role
Government officer under the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) responsible for migrant worker registration, welfare, and reintegration. Conducts pre-departure briefings, investigates complaints from overseas workers, and manages the Welfare Fund (which provides insurance coverage to all registered migrants). Based at SLBFE HQ or district offices.
A Day in the Life
Implement SLBFE programs to protect Sri Lankan migrant workers overseas and develop overseas employment opportunities, managing worker registration, complaints resolution, and welfare services from the Bureau's offices.
- Register outbound migrant workers and verify their documentation
- Investigate complaints from workers overseas regarding employment contract violations
- Coordinate with Sri Lanka Missions overseas on distressed worker cases
- Conduct awareness programs for potential migrant workers in districts
- Monitor licensed foreign employment agencies for SLBFE compliance
- Process welfare fund claims for SLBFE-registered migrant workers
- Prepare statistical reports on migration flows and destination country trends
Work Environment
SLBFE head office (Colombo 10) or district offices across Sri Lanka. Government service environment with direct interaction with migrant workers and their families.
