About This Role
Develops and manages international buyer relationships for Ceylon spice exports — cinnamon, pepper, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, and vanilla. Key markets: USA, EU (especially Germany, UK, Netherlands), Middle East, and Japan. Export documentation, Phytosanitary Certificates (from Dept of Agriculture), and food safety (organic certification, BRC) compliance required.
A Day in the Life
Drive export sales of Sri Lankan spices — cinnamon, pepper, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg — to international buyers in Europe, USA, Middle East, and Asia, managing buyer relationships and shipment coordination from Colombo port.
- Manage portfolio of international spice buyer accounts (bulk and retail)
- Prepare export quotations and negotiate contracts based on market prices
- Coordinate purchase from spice collectors and processors to fulfil export orders
- Manage SLSI export certification, customs documentation, and fumigation certificates
- Represent Sri Lankan spices at international trade fairs (SIAL Paris, Anuga Cologne, Food Ingredients Europe)
- Monitor global spice price trends (pepper, cinnamon, cloves) and market intelligence
- Develop new buyer markets through EDB and Spice Council trade promotion programs
Work Environment
Colombo-based export company office with international travel to trade fairs and buyer visits. Cross-timezone communication with Europe, USA, and Middle East buyers.
Typical hours: 47h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Good office hours base with intensive periods during trade fair seasons. Time zone management for Europe and USA buyers.
