Acts as intermediary at the Colombo Tea Auction — valuing, cataloguing, and selling tea on behalf of plantation companies. Colombo's auction sells ~230 million kg per year. Major brokers: Forbes & Walker, Asia Siyaka, Bartleet Religare, Auctioneers International.

A Day in the Life

Manage the auctioning and trading of bulk Ceylon tea at the Colombo Tea Auction on behalf of tea estate clients, preparing sale catalogues, conducting valuations, and representing producers and buyers at weekly auctions.

  • Receive and sample weekly tea consignments from estate and factory clients
  • Evaluate tea quality and prepare grade descriptions and price valuations for catalogue
  • List consignments on the Colombo Tea Auction catalogue (weekly, Monday)
  • Conduct pre-auction tasting sessions with potential buyers
  • Represent seller clients at the auction gavel and receive buyer bids
  • Process post-auction financial settlements for clients
  • Advise estate clients on factory processes to improve grade and price realisation
