A Day in the Life
A Translation Project Manager oversees the entire lifecycle of translation projects, from initial client brief to final delivery. This involves coordinating linguists, managing budgets, setting timelines, ensuring quality, and communicating effectively with clients and team members to meet project goals.
- Receive and analyze client requests, defining project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
- Prepare project quotes, negotiate terms, and secure necessary resources (linguists, tools).
- Create detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring profitability.
- Assign tasks to translators, editors, proofreaders, and DTP specialists, monitoring their progress.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, address concerns, and manage expectations.
- Oversee quality assurance processes, ensuring translated content meets client specifications and standards.
- Manage project finances, including invoicing and tracking expenses.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during the project lifecycle and implement solutions.
- Maintain project documentation and ensure proper archiving upon completion.
- Identify and onboard new linguistic talent as needed.
Work Environment
Primarily an office or remote-based role, involving extensive computer work and communication. The environment is fast-paced, deadline-driven, and requires constant interaction with a global team of linguists and international clients. It can be demanding due to tight schedules and multiple concurrent projects.
