About This Role

Testing air, water, and soil samples for chemical and physical contaminants using high-tech instrumentation.

A Day in the Life

Analyses environmental samples — water, soil, air, and sediment — for pollutants, heavy metals, nutrients, and chemical contaminants using advanced laboratory techniques to support environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance in Sri Lanka.

  • Collect and prepare environmental samples — water (river, lake, groundwater, marine), soil, and air
  • Analyse samples for heavy metals (Pb, Cd, As, Hg) using AAS and ICP-OES
  • Test water samples for nutrients (N, P), BOD/COD, dissolved oxygen, and microbial indicators
  • Analyse organic pollutants (pesticides, PAHs, VOCs) using GC-MS
  • Prepare environmental analysis reports for CEA, industry clients, and researchers
  • Maintain ISO 17025 analytical quality — calibration, QA/QC samples, blank controls
  • Participate in national environmental monitoring programmes (CEA, CEB, NWSDB)
