A Day in the Life
Develops and advances analytical instrumentation capabilities — designing measurement methods, maintaining complex laboratory equipment at peak performance, and pushing the technical boundaries of what analytical instruments can measure.
- Evaluate and implement new analytical instruments and detection technologies
- Develop novel analytical methods beyond established protocols for challenging measurement problems
- Perform advanced instrument troubleshooting and repair — hardware and software level
- Qualify instruments to regulatory standards (IQ, OQ, PQ) and maintain qualification records
- Train laboratory staff on new instruments and advanced measurement techniques
- Evaluate new analytical technologies and make instrument procurement recommendations
- Collaborate with instrument manufacturers on application development
Work Environment
Advanced research and quality laboratories at pharmaceutical companies, research institutes (SLINTEC, ITI), and universities with significant instrument fleets. The Analytical Instrumentation Scientist is the most technically senior laboratory professional — responsible not just for operating instruments but for maximising their capability and keeping the laboratory at the analytical frontier.
