A Day in the Life
An Aquaculture Farm Manager oversees all aspects of a commercial fish, shrimp, or other aquatic organism farm. This includes managing staff, optimizing production cycles, ensuring water quality, disease prevention, feeding regimes, and marketing the produce to achieve profitability.
- Develop and implement production plans to meet yield and quality targets.
- Manage daily operations, including feeding, water quality monitoring, and stock health checks.
- Supervise and train farm staff, ensuring adherence to safety and operational protocols.
- Implement disease prevention and treatment strategies.
- Manage inventory of feed, chemicals, and equipment.
- Monitor market trends and manage sales and distribution of aquatic products.
- Maintain detailed records of production, costs, and sales.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry best practices.
- Oversee maintenance of farm infrastructure, tanks, ponds, and equipment.
Work Environment
Work is primarily outdoors and in aquatic environments (ponds, tanks, hatcheries). It involves physical labor, exposure to sun and water, and requires constant monitoring of living organisms. The environment can be demanding and requires quick problem-solving.
