An Aquaculture Technologist develops and manages sustainable aquatic animal production systems, often focusing on hatcheries, grow-out facilities, and advanced farming techniques. This involves applying scientific principles to optimize breeding, nutrition, water quality, and disease control.
- Design and implement sustainable aquaculture production systems, including recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
- Manage hatchery operations for fish, shrimp, or other aquatic species, focusing on breeding and larval rearing.
- Monitor and maintain optimal water quality parameters (pH, oxygen, ammonia, salinity).
- Develop and implement feeding regimes and nutritional plans for different life stages.
- Diagnose and manage diseases in aquatic organisms, implementing biosecurity measures.
- Conduct research and experiments to improve growth rates, survival, and feed conversion ratios.
- Operate and calibrate specialized aquaculture equipment and sensors.
