An Aquatic Ecotoxicologist investigates the harmful effects of pollutants on aquatic organisms and ecosystems. Their day involves designing experiments to expose aquatic species to various chemicals, analyzing biological responses, measuring contaminant levels in water and tissue, and interpreting data to assess environmental risks and inform regulatory guidelines.
- Design and conduct laboratory experiments to assess the toxicity of pollutants on aquatic organisms (fish, invertebrates, algae).
- Collect water, sediment, and tissue samples from contaminated aquatic sites.
- Perform chemical analyses to quantify contaminant levels in environmental samples.
- Analyze biological endpoints (e.g., survival, growth, reproduction, biochemical markers) in exposed organisms.
- Interpret data to determine dose-response relationships and identify ecological risks.
