A Day in the Life
An Aquatic Health Specialist/Pathologist spends their day diagnosing diseases in aquatic animals, primarily fish and shrimp, through clinical examination, lab tests, and necropsies. They develop treatment plans, advise farmers on biosecurity, and conduct research to prevent disease outbreaks in aquaculture farms.
- Collect samples from diseased aquatic animals (fish, shrimp) on farms
- Perform necropsies and clinical examinations to identify symptoms
- Conduct laboratory tests (microscopy, microbiology, molecular diagnostics) to identify pathogens
- Diagnose diseases and determine their causes
- Develop and recommend treatment protocols and disease prevention strategies
- Advise aquaculture farmers on biosecurity measures and farm management practices
- Conduct research on new diseases and effective control methods
- Prepare diagnostic reports and maintain detailed records
Work Environment
