About This Role

A Day in the Life

You specialise in using advanced diagnostic tools and software to identify vehicle faults across all systems — engine management, transmission, ABS, airbags, and body electronics — providing accurate diagnoses that guide repair decisions.

  • Connect manufacturer and universal diagnostic scanners to read and interpret fault codes
  • Perform live data analysis on engine, transmission, and chassis ECUs during road tests
  • Use oscilloscope to diagnose sensor waveforms, injector patterns, and CAN bus signals
  • Carry out compression, cylinder balance, and fuel pressure tests to isolate engine faults
  • Diagnose ABS, traction control, and stability control faults using brake system diagnostic tools
  • Test and diagnose hybrid vehicle high-voltage battery management systems
  • Produce written diagnostic reports with fault confirmation and recommended repair procedures
  • Stay current with OEM technical service bulletins and software update procedures

Independent diagnostic centres are beginning to emerge in Colombo.
