This role is ideal for individuals passionate about technology, construction, and problem-solving. It offers the satisfaction of bringing complex building designs to life digitally, ensuring efficiency and accuracy before physical construction begins. While it requires meticulous attention to detail and continuous learning, the opportunity to shape the future of construction through digital innovation is highly rewarding.”
About This Role
Manages Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows using Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD on large construction projects. BIM is now mandated on government projects above LKR 1 billion. Colombo Port City and high-rises are primary BIM-active environments. Autodesk Revit and BIM Level 2 certification valued.
A Day in the Life
A BIM Coordinator's day involves managing and coordinating Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows, ensuring all project stakeholders are using the latest models and data. This includes reviewing models for clashes, generating reports, and providing technical support to the project team.
- Coordinate BIM models from various disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP) to ensure integration and clash detection.
- Conduct regular clash detection meetings using Navisworks and resolve identified issues with relevant teams.
- Develop and maintain BIM execution plans (BEP) and BIM standards for projects.
- Provide technical support and training to project team members on BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD).
- Generate quantity take-offs and reports from BIM models for cost estimation and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with BIM Level 2 standards and project-specific BIM requirements.
- Manage and update the Common Data Environment (CDE) for BIM project information.
- Participate in design review meetings, presenting model progress and potential issues.
Work Environment
Works primarily in an office setting, often within a project office on a construction site or a head office. The environment is collaborative, involving frequent interaction with architects, engineers, and project managers. Requires focus on detailed digital models and data.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Generally good work-life balance, as most work is office-based. Overtime may be required during critical project deadlines or clash resolution phases.
