Bio-Acoustics Researcher

Bio-Acoustics Researchers in Sri Lanka study sound production and reception in animals and ecosystems, using audio recordings to monitor biodiversity, study animal communication, and track environmental change.

• Design and deploy passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) equipment in forests, wetlands, and marine environments
• Record and analyse animal vocalisations including birds, cetaceans, amphibians, and insects
• Process large audio datasets using spectral analysis and machine learning classification tools
• Identify species and population trends from acoustic data
• Write research papers and technical reports on biodiversity and acoustic ecology findings
• Collaborate with conservation organisations on monitoring programmes
• Present findings at academic conferences and to government stakeholders
• Maintain and calibrate recording equipment and ensure data storage integrity
