A Day in the Life
Bio-Meteorologists in Sri Lanka study the relationships between atmospheric conditions and living organisms, informing agricultural planning, public health advisories, urban design, and climate adaptation strategies.
- Collect and analyse meteorological data (temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind) in relation to biological systems
- Model how weather and climate affect crop yields, pest outbreaks, and disease transmission
- Prepare weather-related health risk assessments (heat stress, vector-borne disease risk)
- Advise agricultural ministries and farmers on climate-optimised planting calendars
- Develop phenological models linking plant growth and animal behaviour to weather patterns
- Collaborate with epidemiologists on climate-disease relationships (dengue, malaria)
- Produce reports and visualisations of biometeorological data trends
- Contribute to national climate adaptation plans and disaster risk reduction strategies
