A Bio-Security Officer's day involves inspecting incoming goods, vehicles, and vessels at ports or airports to detect and prevent the entry of invasive pests, diseases, and other biological threats. They conduct risk assessments, enforce regulations, and educate stakeholders on biosecurity protocols.
- Inspect cargo, luggage, and conveyances (ships, aircraft, vehicles) for biological risks
- Identify and intercept prohibited or restricted biological materials (pests, diseases, plants, animals)
- Conduct risk assessments for potential biosecurity threats
- Enforce national and international biosecurity regulations and quarantine laws
- Collect samples for laboratory analysis and identification of organisms
- Educate importers, travelers, and stakeholders on biosecurity requirements
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, interceptions, and enforcement actions
- Collaborate with customs, health, and agriculture authorities
Work Environment
