A Day in the Life

Bioinformatics Modelers build computational models of biological systems — gene regulatory networks, protein interaction maps, metabolic pathways — to predict biological behaviour and generate hypotheses for experimental testing.

  • Construct mathematical or statistical models of gene regulatory or metabolic networks
  • Integrate multi-omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) into biological network models
  • Run simulations to predict system responses to genetic perturbations or drug treatments
  • Validate model predictions against experimental data from collaborating wet-lab groups
  • Develop algorithms for network inference from high-dimensional biological datasets
  • Visualise and interpret model outputs for biological interpretation
  • Write research papers and present at computational biology conferences
  • Maintain reproducible code repositories and analysis documentation
