A Day in the Life
Bioinformatics Scientists apply advanced computational methods to interpret complex biological data — leading genome-scale analyses, developing novel algorithms, and driving research insights at pharmaceutical, genomics, or academic institutions.
- Lead bioinformatics analyses for large-scale genomics, proteomics, or single-cell studies
- Develop and maintain custom bioinformatics software and analytical pipelines
- Collaborate with clinical, biological, and data science teams on study design and interpretation
- Write grant proposals and scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Mentor junior analysts on bioinformatics methods and best practices
- Evaluate and adopt new sequencing technologies and analytical approaches
- Present research findings at conferences and to cross-functional stakeholders
- Contribute to open-source bioinformatics tool development
Work Environment
Typical hours: 42h/week · WLB score 8/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Flexible hours and strong WLB in most roles; grant deadlines can be intensive.
