A Day in the Life
Biophysicists in Sri Lanka study the physical principles underlying biological processes — membrane dynamics, molecular forces, protein mechanics, and signal transduction — working in research universities and medical institutes.
- Design and conduct experiments measuring physical properties of biological systems (force, viscosity, diffusion)
- Use fluorescence microscopy, optical tweezers, or AFM to study single molecules or cells
- Develop theoretical models of biological phenomena (ion channel gating, cytoskeletal mechanics)
- Analyse experimental data using statistical mechanics and signal processing methods
- Collaborate with biologists, biochemists, and clinicians on interdisciplinary projects
- Write research papers and submit grants for biophysics research funding
- Present findings at international biophysics and biology conferences
- Supervise undergraduate or graduate students in biophysics experiments
Work Environment
