A Day in the Life
A Biosafety and Regulatory Specialist ensures that genetically modified plants and other biotechnological products comply with environmental, health, and safety laws. This involves reviewing research protocols, conducting risk assessments, preparing regulatory submissions, and staying updated on evolving national and international biosafety guidelines.
- Review research protocols for genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to ensure biosafety compliance
- Conduct risk assessments for the release or use of GMOs and other biotechnological products
- Prepare and submit regulatory applications to national biosafety authorities
- Interpret and apply national and international biosafety laws, regulations, and guidelines
- Develop and implement biosafety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Provide training and guidance to researchers and staff on biosafety practices
- Monitor compliance with biosafety regulations and conduct internal audits
- Stay updated on scientific advancements and changes in biosafety legislation
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, involving extensive document review, policy development, and communication. May involve occasional visits to laboratories or field trial sites to assess compliance.
