A Day in the Life
Biosystems Technologists in Sri Lanka operate, maintain, and support complex biological systems and equipment in research labs, biotech companies, and industrial settings — bridging technical operations and scientific research teams.
- Operate and maintain biosystems equipment including bioreactors, fermenters, and cell culture systems
- Prepare biological media, buffers, reagents, and stock cultures for research and production
- Monitor biological process parameters and troubleshoot operational issues
- Maintain laboratory instruments and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules
- Support researchers and engineers with technical implementation of experimental protocols
- Document operational logs, maintenance records, and equipment qualification data
- Train junior staff on safe operation of biological equipment
- Ensure laboratory biosafety protocols are followed during all operations
Work Environment
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Structured lab hours with predictable schedule; production support roles may include shift coverage.
