A Day in the Life
Botanical Formulation Leads in Sri Lanka develop and optimise plant-based product formulations — herbal medicines, nutraceuticals, botanical cosmetics, and agricultural bioactives — from laboratory scale through to commercial production.
- Lead formulation development of botanical products from active ingredient identification to final product
- Conduct extraction, fractionation, and characterisation of bioactive plant compounds
- Design and execute stability studies, efficacy testing, and safety assessments
- Optimise formulation parameters (excipients, concentrations, delivery systems) for product performance
- Collaborate with regulatory, marketing, and production teams on product compliance and launch
- Review ethnobotanical literature and traditional medicine knowledge to identify lead plants
- Scale formulations from bench to pilot production and troubleshoot technical challenges
- Prepare technical dossiers and product specifications for regulatory submission
Work Environment
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Good WLB with standard lab hours; product launch deadlines cause brief intensive periods.
