Cheminformatics Data Scientist
About This Role
Mining massive chemical databases using machine learning and statistics to discover new drugs or catalysts.
A Day in the Life
Cheminformatics Data Scientists apply advanced machine learning and AI methods to chemical datasets, building predictive models for drug-like properties, molecular generation, and chemical space exploration to accelerate drug discovery and materials design.
- Develop deep learning models (graph neural networks, transformers) for molecular property prediction
- Build generative AI systems for de novo molecular design (VAEs, diffusion models)
- Train and evaluate ML models on large chemical datasets from ChEMBL, PubChem, ZINC
- Apply transfer learning and multi-task learning to chemical property prediction problems
- Develop explainable AI tools for understanding model predictions in chemistry context
- Deploy cheminformatics ML models into production pipelines via APIs
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists and computational biologists on model-guided design
- Write research papers and contribute to open-source AI chemistry tools (e.g., DeepChem)
