A Day in the Life
Cheminformatics Specialists are senior practitioners who lead cheminformatics platforms, chemical data governance, and computational chemistry tooling within pharmaceutical or research organisations, combining deep scientific expertise with technical leadership.
- Architect and maintain enterprise cheminformatics platforms and chemical registration systems
- Define standards for chemical structure representation, data quality, and database curation
- Lead evaluation and implementation of new cheminformatics software and AI tools
- Consult with drug discovery, materials research, and regulatory teams on compound data needs
- Design and implement chemical informatics workflows for virtual screening and compound management
- Train scientists in cheminformatics tools and best practices
- Manage vendor relationships for commercial cheminformatics software
- Contribute to strategic planning for computational chemistry infrastructure
Work Environment
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Senior leadership role with strategic responsibility; flexible but with accountability.
