A Day in the Life
Chemometricians in Sri Lanka apply multivariate statistical analysis to chemical and process data, enabling rapid material identification, quality control, and process optimisation in pharmaceutical, food, agricultural, and environmental sectors.
- Develop PLS, PCA, and classification models for spectroscopic or process data
- Apply NIR, Raman, or UV-Vis spectral data to rapid product quality assessment
- Design calibration sets and validate chemometric models against reference methods
- Implement multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) for manufacturing quality
- Perform data pre-processing (baseline correction, normalisation, smoothing) on spectral data
- Train QC analysts on using chemometric software for routine testing
- Evaluate new spectroscopic sensors and their suitability for at-line quality monitoring
- Publish chemometric method developments in analytical chemistry journals
Work Environment
Typical hours: 42h/week · WLB score 8/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Primarily data analysis work with flexible hours; excellent WLB.
