About This Role

Applying fluid dynamics and chaos theory to predict long-term atmospheric and oceanic shifts.

A Day in the Life

Climate Dynamics Analysts study the physical mechanisms that drive climate variability and change — analysing atmospheric circulation, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and teleconnections to improve understanding of Sri Lanka's rainfall patterns and extreme weather.

  • Analyse global and regional climate datasets for patterns of variability (ENSO, IOD, MJO)
  • Study large-scale circulation dynamics and their impact on Sri Lankan monsoon variability
  • Apply statistical techniques (EOF, wavelet, compositing) to climate time-series data
  • Run sensitivity experiments with climate models to diagnose dynamical mechanisms
  • Collaborate with meteorologists and hydro-climatologists on regional climate analysis
  • Write research papers on climate dynamics findings and present at conferences
  • Contribute to seasonal climate forecasting research for agriculture and disaster risk
  • Communicate climate dynamics insights to policy and practitioner audiences
