A Day in the Life

Climate Modelers in Sri Lanka develop, run, and analyse global and regional climate simulations to project future climate scenarios, supporting national climate policy, agriculture planning, water resource management, and disaster risk reduction.

  • Configure and run global or regional climate model simulations on HPC clusters
  • Perform downscaling of global climate projections to Sri Lanka regional scale
  • Validate climate model output against observational data from weather stations and satellites
  • Analyse model projections for temperature, rainfall, and extreme event changes in Sri Lanka
  • Prepare climate projection datasets for use by adaptation planners and sector specialists
  • Write research papers and technical reports on climate modelling results
  • Collaborate with meteorologists, hydrologists, and agricultural scientists
  • Contribute to IPCC assessment report chapters and national climate communications
