A Day in the Life
A Clinical Bioinformatician spends their day analyzing vast amounts of genomic and other biological data from patients. They use computational tools and statistical methods to identify genetic variations, predict disease risk, and inform personalized treatment strategies, working closely with clinicians and researchers.
- Develop and apply bioinformatics pipelines for analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data (genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic).
- Interpret complex genomic variants in the context of human disease and clinical phenotypes.
- Collaborate with clinical geneticists, oncologists, and other specialists to integrate genomic insights into patient care.
- Maintain and curate clinical genomics databases and knowledge bases.
