Manages serverless computing and cloud storage solutions (AWS/Azure).
A Day in the Life
Cloud Infrastructure Engineers design and manage the core cloud infrastructure layers — networking, storage, compute, and security — that all applications run on top of, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Design VPC architectures, subnets, and network peering
- Provision compute and storage infrastructure (EC2, S3, EBS, RDS)
- Implement cloud security controls (IAM policies, Security Groups, WAF)
- Build infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or CloudFormation
- Manage cloud cost budgets and implement savings strategies
- Respond to infrastructure alerts and resolve availability issues
- Collaborate with application teams on infrastructure requirements
Work Environment
Enterprise IT or tech company. Infrastructure focus means deeper technical specialisation than general DevOps. On-call rotation.
Typical hours: 47h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Infrastructure role with on-call. Generally stable in well-managed environments.
