A Day in the Life
Computer Systems Analysts bridge the gap between business needs and IT capabilities — analysing existing systems, gathering requirements from business stakeholders, designing IT solutions, and coordinating their implementation to improve organisational efficiency.
- Gather and document business requirements through stakeholder interviews
- Analyse existing systems, processes, and data flows
- Design IT system specifications and data models
- Prepare feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses
- Coordinate between business units and development teams
- Test implemented solutions against requirements
- Document system specifications, user guides, and change management plans
Work Environment
Corporate IT department, government sector, or IT consulting firm. Business-facing role requiring both technical and interpersonal skills.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Project-driven role with generally good WLB. System implementation phases can be intense.
