A Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Engineer designs, installs, and maintains advanced greenhouse and hydroponic systems. Their day involves technical planning, system optimization, troubleshooting automation, and integrating various technologies to create ideal growing conditions for crops.
- Designing and optimizing climate control systems (HVAC, CO2 enrichment) for greenhouses.
- Developing and implementing automated irrigation and nutrient delivery systems (hydroponics, aeroponics).
- Selecting and integrating appropriate lighting systems (LEDs) for plant growth.
- Troubleshooting and maintaining sensors, controllers, and other automation components.
- Conducting energy efficiency assessments and recommending improvements.
- Collaborating with horticulturists and plant scientists to meet crop-specific environmental needs.
- Developing and reviewing technical specifications for new CEA projects.
- Performing regular system diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
- Staying updated on emerging CEA technologies and best practices.
Work Environment
