A Day in the Life
DevOps & Cloud Engineers combine software development practices with cloud operations — building automated pipelines, managing cloud infrastructure, enabling continuous delivery, and ensuring applications remain reliable, observable, and scalable in production.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for multiple teams
- Manage Kubernetes clusters and containerised workloads
- Write infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi)
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and distributed tracing
- Conduct capacity planning and cost optimisation reviews
- Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis
- Collaborate with developers to define deployment and observability standards
Work Environment
Tech company, SaaS platform, or enterprise. DevOps engineers embed with development teams or work on a dedicated platform team. On-call standard.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
On-call is standard. Remote-first companies often manage on-call well with global team rotation.
