About This Role
Prepares artwork files for printing — typesetting, layout, colour management, and file preparation (PDF/X-1a standard). Works in newspaper print departments, commercial printers, and publishing houses. Key tools: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat. Wijeya Newspapers and Upali Newspapers (The Island) employ full DTP departments producing 24-hour newspaper cycles.

This involves typesetting text, laying out pages, adjusting images, ensuring color accuracy, and performing pre-flight checks to catch any errors before printing. - Receiving and checking client artwork files for print readiness
- Typesetting and formatting text according to design specifications and style guides
- Laying out pages for books, magazines, newspapers, and other print materials using design software
- Adjusting images for resolution, color correction, and print quality
- Performing pre-flight checks to identify and correct potential printing issues (e.g., fonts, bleeds, color modes)
- Creating and managing print-ready PDF/X-1a files
- Collaborating with graphic designers to implement design changes and ensure accuracy
- Operating and maintaining DTP software and hardware
