If you want to be the engineer who designs the steel towers and high-voltage cables that carry electricity across Sri Lanka — building infrastructure that will last generations — transmission engineering is one of the most consequential careers in the country.

About This Role

Designs and maintains high-voltage (132kV/220kV) transmission lines and substations under CEB Transmission Division. Involved in grid expansion projects and substation automation. Key projects: Central Transmission Division, Northern Grid Connection, East-West link.

A Day in the Life

Design, construct, and maintain the high-voltage transmission lines (132kV, 220kV) that carry electricity from power plants to substation grids across Sri Lanka under the CEB Transmission Division.

  • Design transmission tower routes and right-of-way (ROW) acquisition plans
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings for tower structures, foundations, and conductors
  • Supervise construction of new transmission lines and substation upgrades
  • Conduct live-line inspection and maintenance scheduling for existing 132kV/220kV lines
  • Analyse thermal ratings and conductor sag calculations for seasonal loading
  • Coordinate with environmental agencies for EIA approvals on new line projects
  • Prepare project tender documents and evaluate contractor bids
