A Day in the Life
A Forest Restoration Scientist designs and implements projects to restore degraded forest ecosystems. This involves applying principles of plant biotechnology, soil chemistry, and ecological science, often working in the field to monitor progress and adapt strategies.
- Assess degraded forest sites to determine restoration needs and potential.
- Develop restoration plans, including species selection, planting techniques, and soil amendments.
- Utilize plant biotechnology for propagation of native or resilient species.
- Analyze soil chemistry and microbiology to improve soil health for restoration.
- Implement and oversee field restoration activities (e.g., planting, invasive species removal).
- Monitor the success of restoration projects using ecological indicators.

Work Environment
