- Collecting and documenting plant seeds, tissue samples, or animal genetic material (sperm, eggs)
- Processing and preparing samples for long-term storage (drying, freezing, cryo-preservation)
- Maintaining and monitoring conditions in seed banks, gene banks, or cryo-facilities
- Regenerating plant accessions from stored seeds to ensure viability and genetic integrity
- Conducting genetic characterization of conserved materials using molecular markers
- Managing detailed databases of genetic resources and associated metadata
