An Exploration Geophysicist processes seismic wave data using wave physics and Fourier analysis to locate energy resources. Their daily tasks involve transforming raw data into subsurface images, interpreting geological structures, and identifying potential drill targets.
- Apply wave physics and signal processing techniques to seismic data for noise reduction and signal enhancement.
- Perform Fourier analysis and other spectral methods to analyze seismic attributes.
- Conduct seismic velocity modeling and depth migration to accurately image subsurface structures.
- Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data volumes to identify geological features relevant to resource exploration.
- Integrate seismic interpretations with well log data, geological maps, and other geophysical datasets.
- Generate prospect maps and volumetric estimates for potential hydrocarbon or mineral deposits.
- Collaborate with geologists, drilling engineers, and reservoir engineers.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations on exploration targets.
Work Environment
