A Hatchery Technologist manages the entire process of breeding, hatching, and rearing aquatic species (fish, shrimp) in a controlled environment. This involves monitoring water quality, feeding larvae, disease prevention, and maintaining optimal conditions for growth and survival to supply aquaculture farms.
- Monitoring and maintaining optimal water quality parameters (pH, temperature, oxygen, salinity)
- Managing broodstock (parent fish/shrimp) for spawning and egg collection
- Overseeing the hatching process and early larval rearing
- Preparing and administering specialized feeds for larvae and juveniles
- Implementing biosecurity measures and disease prevention protocols
- Conducting daily health checks and identifying signs of stress or disease
- Maintaining detailed records of growth, feed consumption, and mortality rates
- Operating and maintaining hatchery equipment (filters, pumps, aeration systems)
