A Health Data Scientist (Imaging Focus) spends their day developing and applying advanced analytical models, often involving AI and machine learning, to medical imaging data (PET, SPECT, MRI, CT scans). Their goal is to automate disease detection, improve diagnostic accuracy, and extract new insights from complex visual data to aid clinicians.
- Develop and implement machine learning models for image segmentation, classification, and object detection in medical scans
- Pre-process and clean large datasets of medical images, ensuring data quality and consistency
- Collaborate with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other clinicians to define project requirements and validate models
- Research and evaluate new AI algorithms and deep learning architectures for medical image analysis
- Optimize model performance and interpret results, explaining complex AI decisions to medical professionals
- Manage and integrate imaging data from various sources, ensuring data privacy and ethical handling
- Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at conferences
