A Day in the Life
A Hydrological Modeler spends their day developing and applying computer models to simulate water movement in rivers, lakes, and catchments. This involves using fluid dynamics and statistical inference to predict flood risks, water availability, and the impact of climate change, requiring strong analytical skills and proficiency in specialized software.
- Develop conceptual models of hydrological systems based on field data and scientific literature.
- Select and apply appropriate hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWAT, MIKE SHE).
- Input geographical, meteorological, and hydrological data into models.
- Calibrate and validate models against observed data to ensure accuracy.
- Run simulations to predict river flows, flood extents, and water resource availability.
- Perform sensitivity analysis and uncertainty assessment on model results.
