A Day in the Life
An Industrial Simulation Engineer develops digital models (digital twins) of chemical plants and machinery. This involves using numerical analysis and specialized software to simulate processes, predict performance, optimize designs, and troubleshoot issues without impacting physical operations.
- Develop detailed digital twin models of chemical plants, machinery, and processes
- Apply numerical analysis techniques to solve complex engineering problems within simulations
- Validate simulation models against real-world operational data
- Conduct 'what-if' scenarios to optimize process parameters and equipment designs
- Collaborate with process engineers and designers to integrate simulation results into projects
- Troubleshoot and debug simulation models
- Present simulation findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Stay updated with the latest simulation software and modeling techniques
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, working with high-performance computing systems for simulation. There may be occasional visits to industrial sites to gather data or validate models, but the core work is digital.
