An Instrumentation Engineer (Industrial) specializes in programming, configuring, and maintaining automated sensing and control systems within high-tech manufacturing plants. A typical day involves reviewing process diagrams, writing or modifying PLC/DCS code, calibrating industrial sensors, diagnosing system faults, and collaborating with production teams to optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Design, configure, and program PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and DCS (Distributed Control System) logic.
- Calibrate, test, and maintain a wide range of industrial sensors and transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow, level).
- Develop and implement Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system malfunctions and instrumentation issues.
- Collaborate with process engineers to optimize control loops and improve process efficiency.
- Ensure all instrumentation and control systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Prepare technical documentation, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and control narratives.
- Provide technical support and training to plant operators and maintenance staff.
Work Environment
Works primarily in industrial manufacturing environments, which can be dynamic, noisy, and require adherence to strict safety protocols. Involves working closely with machinery and process equipment.
