An IPM Specialist designs and implements comprehensive strategies to manage farm pests sustainably, combining biological, cultural, and chemical methods. This involves field assessments, developing action plans, training farmers, and monitoring outcomes.
- Conduct regular field scouting to identify pest populations, beneficial insects, and disease symptoms.
- Analyze pest thresholds and economic injury levels to determine intervention needs.
- Develop integrated pest management plans tailored to specific crops and farm conditions.
- Recommend and implement biological control agents, cultural practices (e.g., crop rotation), and resistant varieties.
- Advise on the judicious and safe use of pesticides as a last resort, ensuring proper selection and application.
