A Day in the Life
An Interior Architect's day blends creative design with technical planning. They might be sketching layouts, developing 3D models, selecting materials and finishes, or coordinating with contractors and clients. The focus is on optimizing interior spaces for aesthetics, functionality, and structural integrity, often involving structural modifications.
- Meet with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget for interior spaces.
- Develop conceptual designs, space plans, and mood boards for interior projects.
- Create detailed 2D drawings (floor plans, elevations) and 3D renderings using CAD and BIM software.
- Select and specify furniture, fixtures, equipment (FF&E), materials, and finishes.
- Coordinate with structural engineers, M&E engineers, and contractors on structural changes and system integration.
- Prepare construction documents, schedules, and cost estimates for interior works.
- Supervise construction and installation to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
- Ensure designs comply with building codes, accessibility standards, and safety regulations.
Work Environment
A hybrid role, combining office-based design work, client meetings, and administrative tasks with frequent site visits to construction sites or existing properties. The office environment is typically collaborative and creative, while site visits involve exposure to construction conditions.
