A Day in the Life
An Irrigation & Farm Utility Manager oversees all water resources and utility systems on a farm, ensuring efficient and sustainable use. This involves monitoring automated irrigation, managing pumps, maintaining infrastructure, and optimizing energy consumption.
- Monitor and operate automated irrigation systems (e.g., pivot, drip, sprinkler) to ensure optimal water delivery.
- Schedule irrigation cycles based on crop needs, soil moisture, and weather forecasts.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on pumps, pipes, valves, and other irrigation components.
- Manage farm utility systems, including electricity, generators, and water supply for non-irrigation uses.
- Implement water conservation strategies and optimize energy consumption for utility operations.
- Maintain detailed records of water usage, energy consumption, and maintenance activities.
- Supervise and train farm staff on proper irrigation techniques and utility safety.
- Collaborate with agronomists to align irrigation schedules with crop growth stages.
